The Innovative Shimano Stella FD

A three-year project for Shimano’s fishing reel development staff, was part of the mission to design new innovative features that would change the way spinning reels function.

The result is the introduction of the new Shimano Stella FD reels –

The Shimano Stella FD line-up includes the

The Shimano Stella FD 1000 with 12 shielded A-RB bearings, a 5.0:1 gear ratio, and can handle from 6- to 12-pound test line.

Each with 13 shielded A-RB bearings and 5.2:1 gear ratios,

The Shimano Stella FD 2500 is for 8- to 12-pound test while

The Shimano Stella FD 3000 can handle from 8- to 16-pound test.

The Shimano Stella FD 4000 as a 4.8:1 gear ratio and has the spool capacity to handle lines sizes from 12- to 20-pound test.

Featuring design improvements to enhance the overall fishing experience.

Shimano asked and listened to anglers everywhere – including fishing tackle dealers, guides and fishing experts, about their thought on spinning reels and the areas that needed the most improvement,

The Shimano Stella FD

The three critical targets identified – gear durability, line management and casting performance – led us to introduce key new features to the Shimano Stella FD including:

Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement,

Propulsion Line Management System

Aero Wrap II Oscillation System.”

Line twist has always been an inherent problem with spinning reels, along with the occasional backlash and wind knot that is caused by line being loosely packed onto the spool. While most spinning reel anglers have come to just expect these problems, we address them with the new Propulsion Line Management System. Shimano Stella FD no more line twist.

A five-component system, Shimano’s Propulsion feature includes a spool lip design to prevent backlashes and wind knots from forming. Line also flows off the spool in smaller loops meaning less line slap on the stripper guide, which when combined with the long stroke spool design, provides longer casting distance due to less friction. The unique shape of the spool and the spool lip design combine to keep the line from bouncing, and provides a consistent light friction on the line to reduce line twist and backlashes.

The Propulsion Line Management System also includes Shimano’s SR-Concept one-piece bail wire to reduce friction and tangles, a twist-reducing Power Roller III line roller, a bail trip mechanism that easily trips the bail by turning the handle, and Shimano’s S-Arm Cam. This final component keeps the line in contact with the line roller during slack line fishing such as vertical jigging and drop-shotting.

The Shimano Stella FD reels also feature Shimano’s Aero Wrap II Oscillation System to provide uniform line lay and winding shape. This special worm gear system creates the ideal line lay for the Propulsion spool lip design, preventing any loss of energy during the cast while providing longer casting distance.

Along with features addressing gear durability, line management and casting performance, Shimano also offers other innovations in the Shimano Stella FD spinning reels including the

Direct Drive Mechanism (a thread-in handle to eliminate backplay),

A Maintenance Port for easy lubrication,

Shielded A-RB (anti-rust) bearings for corrosion resistance and contaminant protection,

Super Stopper II anti-reverse and waterproof drags.

All four reels are made with lightweight magnesium frames and sideplates.

Additionally, the Shimano Stella FD reels feature Shimano’s new Rigid Support System. Building upon the Stella FB introduction of Rigid Support Drag to eliminate spool wobble at light drag settings, the Rigid Support System adds a redesigned oscillation slider to eliminate axial spool play as well. By eliminating these tolerances drag performance is even smoother and more efficient than in previous Stella reels.

Shimano Fishing Reels

Shimano Fishing Reels are products of the Shimano Fishing Tackle Company.

The company began business in 1921 under the name of Shimano Ironworks and their product was a bicycle freewheel. Through the years up until 1970 their main focus was on bicycle production. In 1970 the fishing tackle division was introduced and by 1978 the company starts a fishing tackle campaign. This was the year that the series of Bantam reels were released. In 1981 the X Line series of rods were released. You can find many subsidiaries of the Shimano company throughout the world currently with products ranging from fishing equipment to bicycling equipment to golfing equipment.

The Shimano Fishing Tackle company products range from rods, reels, gear and anything in between. With the focus being on the Shimano Fishing Reels, Shimano has a great selection to choose from. Conventional reels, Low Profile Bait casting reels, Round Bait casting reels, Offshore Spinning reels and Spinning reels are some of them available through Shimano Fishing Reels.

Conventional reels include reels for the saltwater angler such as the Trinidad DC. This reel is an exceptional choice for saltwater anglers due to it’s digital braking system. With an 8 step adjustment knob you can control the mode of the reel from an ultra long cast mode to a maximum control mode.

The Tekota reel is a conventional reel that is great for both freshwater fish and saltwater fish. Saltwater anglers will appreciate its strength and durability while the freshwater angler will appreciate its line capacity.

Spinning reels that Shimano Fishing Reels offers include the Spirex FG. This reel was designed for simple one handed casts and has A-RB bearings which produces a smooth retrieval of the line. The Sahara would be the choice for light saltwater fishing or freshwater fishing. The line capacity and many features this reel has to offer makes it the reel for offshore fishing. The Stella FD has a magnesium frame and an aluminum rotor which makes this reel light weight and durable. It also has a gear coating on top of the normal gear coating that will ensure the durability of this spinning reel.

Being in the business for more than 80 years, the Shimano Company has produced high quality products though out the world.
