April 12th, 2010 by admin | 8 Comments | Filed in Low Profile Baitcasting Reels

Shimano introduced the 1st Chronarch in 1993 and since then new materials, new design features and new technologies tend to be utilized by each upgraded line-up of the Shimano Chronarch baitcaster group of reels.
Shimano Chronarch Baitcaster
Shimano has always combined the top features from old and added them to the brand new to create very successful reels.

The redesigned Shimano Chronarch Baitcaster is packed with exciting features that make this reel far better than ever before. Now most of these modern features are found in the latest Shimano Chronarch Baitcaster Group of reels.

When you lift it from your box first of all , what you’ll see is a new sleek body design which has resulted in a significant weight reduction and improved ergonomics. The next thing you see is the colour and very durable finish on the Chronarch because of the Ion Plating technology exclusive to Shimano, this exact Ion Plating was adopted for the Stella Reels.

Take notice of the Aluminium spool so far as I know its a brand new design to give you longer and smoother casts,it somehow reduces inertia allowing the spool to spin considerably quicker

The entry point to access the VBS centrifugal braking system has been changed from the screw lock system to a user friendly trigger system saving time if you have to make changes/adjustments while fishing.

Another exclusive recent innovation of shimano’s is the HEG; High Efficiency Gearing. They have increased the diameter of the gear wheels which gives far more leverage and much greater speed on the retrieve.

Some other popular features of the chronarch are the Dartanium Drag material which gives you the smoothest drag ever, specially treated anti-rust bearings A-RB along with plenty additional features listed below.

Shimano’s New Lightweight Stradic Spinning Reels

April 6th, 2010 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in Spinning Reels

Shimano Brings ‘Carbon Interfusion’ Material to Fishing Tackle
IRVINE, Calif. — ICAST Show Intro – New for ‘09/‘10 – When the situation is lightweight finesse bait fishing, Shimano adds two new Stradic spinning reels to its line-up, both constructed with ‘CI4’ – a reinforced carbon fiber that allows its reel development staff to design ultra-light frames and sideplates. Two front-drag models are available, including the Stradic CI4 1000F and CI4 2500F.

Stradic CI4 Spinning Reel

At the 2009 ICAST Show, the Stradic CI4 reels received the freshwater reel ‘Best of Show’ honors in the New Product Showcase awards voted on by tackle buyers and media attendees. It’s the eighth year in a row a Shimano reel has been recognized with an award in the ICAST’s flagship event.

“When you’re using Shakey Head, drop-shot or light Texas rigs, the idea is to keep the tackle as light as possible to add to overall sensitivity,” said Jeremy Sweet, reel product manager for Shimano. “With our Carbon Interfusion process — CI4 — we’ve come up with the lightest carbon fiber material to use in the construction of fishing reels.”

Sweet notes that Shimano originally developed CI4 for its higher-end bicycle components, to provide durability and lightness to brake brackets and front chainrings. “This material technology has proven itself on Shimano bicycle components used by world class cyclists including Lance Armstrong,” Sweet said, “ and through the use of CI4 in these new Stradic spinning reels, we’re able to provide the durability and lightness that finesse bait anglers have asked for.”

Along with CI4 construction, the Stradic CI4 1000F and CI4 2500F reels features Shimano’s Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement, Propulsion Line Management System and shielded A-RB anti-rust ball bearings. “As these proven features have shown in other spinning reels series from Shimano, we offer the ability to make gears with less metal for reduced weight, along with nearly eliminating any line twist,” said Sweet. “And while anglers will appreciate the overall lightweight of these Stradic CI4 reels, they still offer plenty of capacity for either mono or PowerPro braid.”

Anglers will also appreciate a lightweight EVA handle grip “that will help provide all-day comfort when finesse fishing,” notes Sweet. “It matches the ultra high-end rod designs and trends that anglers are seeing.”

Additional features on the Stradic CI4 reels include Shimano’s Aero Wrap II Oscillation System to provide uniform line lay and winding shape, a waterproof front drag, a maintenance port, Fluidrive II, Dyna-Balance, Super Stopper II and a repairable clicker. Both reels have 6.0:1 gear ratios.

The Stradic CI4 1000F will hold up to 110 yards of 6-pound test mono – with PowerPro braid, it will hold from 190 yards of 5-pound and up to 65 yards of 20-pound — and will retrieve 29-inches of line per crank. The CI4 2500F holds up to 120 yards of 10-pound test mono — and from 330 yard of 5-pound and up to 95 yards of 30-pound PowerPro — and will reel in 34-inches of line per crank.

“Lighter and more durable than our magnesium spinning reels, we see the Stradic CI4 reels becoming the standard spinning reels for avid finesse bait anglers,” Sweet said. “When it’s all about tackle that is light, sensitive and able to be fished hard, anglers can find it with these Stradic spinning reels.”

Shimano baitcasting reels

March 20th, 2010 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in Low Profile Baitcasting Reels, Round Baitcasting Reels

Shimano baitcasting reels are among the finest in the world. In fact, I would be as bold to say that they make the absolute finest on earth. What makes these precise fishing tools so great? Let’s explore some of these factors right now!

Shimano’s revolutionary technology and ability to utilize it in way previously unheard of is what makes their reels legendary. With so many to choose from, how does one know how to buy the perfect reel for his unique situations? Let’s look deeper.

  • - Shimano’s low profile baitcasters are arguably the smoothest reels ever made. Their super palmabilty does not compromise the durability in any way. Their small profile makes them ideal for long durations of use when large line capacity is not an issue. There is a reel in this category for every budget.
  • - The round baitcasters in Shimano’s line-up are some of the toughest reels on the market. I can’t think of one that isn’t built like a tank. Whether your big game fishing or fishing with heavy tackle for smaller fish there is the perfect size reel for you. If you need a little more line capacity or want the assurance of an extra tough reel, check one of these out.

I own Shimano reels almost exclusively for some very specific reasons. They have never let me down, they are smooth and far-casting, and they have one of the best values on the market. However, some anglers think that Shimano’s are too heavy for their liking. This can be an issue if you are concerned with extra ounces, but I have not found it to be a problem.

If you’re considering a new baitcaster, check out Shimano’s line-up. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Shimano Torsa LD

March 12th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Shimano Reels

Torsa LD

Seeing the need for small, high speed, high power lever drags reels with exceptional casting ability, Shimano’s product development staff worked more than five years on the design of the Torsa lever drag reels. Now available in four sizes for specific saltwater fishing situations, the Torsa (TS) 16N narrow-spool, TS16, TS20 and TS30 feature Shimano’s exclusive Rapid Fire interchangeable and technique-specific drag cam system to allow quick and easy change of the Torsa’s drag curve.

With the various Rapid Fire drag cams offered, anglers can set up their Torsa reel for anything from long range action, light line fishing with 6- to 15-pound test, bottom fishing with 20- up to 50-pound test, kingfish trolling, dropping back baits to white marlin, and even tuna chunking in the Northeast. Each Torsa comes standard with the all-purpose (Long Range Special) drag cam, with seven other drag cams available separately to modify the Torsa to the fishing technique being used.

With the Torsa reels, Shimano’s goal was to build a better lever drag reel from the inside out.

Unlike most fishing reels, we didn’t come up with the appearance of the reel first, and then load in features. Plus we had our top engineers on baitcasting reels involved with the Torsa in order to design a lever drag reel with outstanding castability.”

Speed and power for the Torsa reels come from Shimano’s High Efficiency Gearing. We also use the largest drive gear Shimano has ever designed for a fishing reel – 22-percent larger than the Trinidad drive gear – which gives the Torsa an unconventional, asymmetrical look so the right side plate can hold the oversized drag washer. Added power to the Torsa comes from Shimano’s Super Stopper one-way roller bearing and Assist Stopper back-up ratchet anti-reverse system.

So that anglers could have a lever drag that could really cast, not just a lob cast, we reduced the weight of the cold forged aluminum spool through meticulous machining. With this lighter weight spool, the Torsa reels have lower start inertia, resulting in a more manageable cast. Plus we added Shimano’s proven Variable Brake System to further control spool speed and both the beginning and end of the cast.

Shimano’s Rapid Fire drag cams provide versatility to the Torsa reels, allowing anglers to change the reels’ function to cater to specific techniques. By quickly changing to a different drag cam, the Torsa’s drag curve can be set for various fishing situations, unlike most lever drag reels were the drag curve is fixed.

Rapid Fire drag cams offered include the Long Range Special (L.R.S), providing an all-purpose drag curve for stand-up fishing with 20- to 65-pound test. Two light line drag cams, the L.L.S. 6 and L.L.S. 12 are for world record attempts and light line tournaments. Bottom fishing anglers are offered the B.F.S. 20 for 20- to 40 pound test, and B.F.S 50 for 50- to 80-pound test.

A white marlin drag cam, the W.M.S. for 20- to 30-pound test, allows anglers to quickly drop the tension on a running fish while using light line. Providing light drag pressure so hooks don’t rip out, the kingfish special drag cam – K.F.S. – is for light line trolling with 10- to 20-pound test. And when chunking for tuna, the chunking fishing special drag cam – C.F.S. is ideal for both small baits and floats in light current, and bigger baits in heavy current. It can be used with 15- to 40-pound test line.

Along with the specific fishing techniques that the Torsa reels can be used for with a specific Rapid Fire drag cam, the high speed and power featured with the reels make them ideal for use with Shimano’s Butterfly Jigging System. Match a Torsa 16 Narrow with a new Trevala rod, bring along an assortment of Shimano Butterfly jigs, and you’ll be amazed with the fun you can have catching big fish in deeper waters.”

Each Torsa reel features Shimano’s A-RB anti-rust stainless steel ball bearings – eight total plus one roller bearing, an ergonomic power handle, cold forged machined aluminum frame and sideplates, a 5.8:1 gear ratio, and a clicker. Line capacities range from 300 yards of 14-pound test on the TN16N, 450 yards of 16 on the TN16, 420 yards of 20 on the TS20, and 350 of 30 on the TS30. They are backed by Shimano’s Platinum Service Plan.

Torsa reels and Rapid Fire quick change drag cams are available from select Shimano tackle dealers.
