The Ultimate Lightweight Shimano Core.

The new Shimano CORE reels are designed to be the ultimate, lightweight (This brand new Core reel weighs only 173 grams on the scales) baitcasting reels. Made with magnesium frames and sideplates, and featuring Magnumlite spool construction, the standard version for all around fishing, weighs in at 6.1 ounces with a 6.2:1 gear ratio. The series consists of a left and a right-handed version and a version with a faster transfer. The FV flipping version, equipped with Instagage II, comes with oversized PV paddles and a 7.0:1 gear ratio to move fish out of cover fast. These reels both come with HEG, feature Shielded A-RB bearings and are designed to be as compact as possible for a comfortable, lightweight and maneuverable fishing experience.

Shimano describe their new Core baitcaster as the ultimate compact and light-weight baitcasting reel, and with plenty of magnesium evident in its construction, that’s pretty darn accurate. In addition to its outrageous looks, it’s packed with features to make your fishing more enjoyable, the long list of features include a Cold Forged Aluminum Drive Gear Star Drag Dartanium, Magnesium body, Double Paddle Handle and 4 Shielded A-RB bearings.

Shimano low profile baitcasting reels have been engineered taking into consideration all the feedback they have heard from both bass and inshore fishermen, with the end result being features that help fishermen catch more fish.

Aldebaran MG/MG7

The new Aldebaran Baitcast Magnesium Low Profile Baitcasting Reels were evolved from the outgoing Scorpion Mg series.The design concept was to have a compact featherweight reel & the Aldebaran achieved that objective with an incredible 155gram weight! Spool diameter was also reduced to 32mm, lightest & smallest in Shimano Low Profile Baitcasting Reels range so that frame design could be as low profile as possible & longer free spins could be achieved with its lightweight Magnesium spool. With this breakthrough design, this reel is ideal for casting light weight of between 4gm to 10gm. Two available gear ratios of 5.8 for power crank or 7.0 high speed retrieve. With Shimano proven SVS brake system, accurate & long distance casting is a breeze.
Available in both Left & Right hand model as well.

Antares DC

The introduction of the long awaited Antares DC and DC7 reel; bringing Low Profile Baitcasting Reels technology to the next level. The DC/DC7 gives the angler unmatched casting distance and problem free casting everytime. The reel has 4 different modes of cast, each with 8 stages to give a combination of 32 different patterns of braking capabilities to suit all fishing conditions. The reel is also self energizing and does not need any additional batteries to work. The SA-RB features 8/1 Sealed A-RB for the extra protection against any possible intrusion from saltwater or any other elements. The Escape Hatch allows easy access to the SVS System Open and close the sideplate via a one-touch button. You won’t believe the sleek design and elegant performance of Shimano’s line of Low Profile Baitcasting Reel – these babies are awesome!

Today, we’re going to have an educational post about Baitcasting reels . Of course, for baitcasting, Shimano Reels are the best, but we’ll let you form your own opinion.

First, if you’re a bass fisherman, you’ll definitely want to invest in a baitcasting reel. Bait casting reels were designed specifically for bass fishing. Although learning to use a baitcasting reel can be tough, they are well worth the time and patience.

Of course, your experience with a baitcasting reel will largely depend on the brand you select. It will be important to pick a great brand in fishing reels, like a Shimano Reel. Not only are these reels a leader in their industry, Shimano Reels take the effort out of fishing. With baitcasting being a more tricky type of sport fishing to learn, having a Shimano baitcasting reel will put you ahead of the curve.
You’ll want to spool your baitcasting reel with a moderately heavy test line, anywhere between 14 and 20, and be sure to use a monofilament line. By spooling with a heavier line, you’ll have a much easier time learning to cast.

Next, only spool about half of the reel. Spooling the entire reel causes two problems:

1. A heavier reel

2. Potential backlashes

Save yourself a little frustration and just start with a half spool. If you decide you need more line, you can always add more later.

Casting a baitcaster is all about your thumb. This is going to take practice, so both practice and patience will be key here. Your thumb will be controlling the spool of line and will need to engrain a few new habits. A bit of good news is that the thumb can easily be trained without being on the boat, so don’t worry – you won’t be wasting precious fishing time. Practice loosening the spool control on your baitcasting reel, letting the weight drop, and using your thumb to catch the line right before the weight hits the floor.

Here’s the best part – this can be practiced at home in front of the TV, on your back porch, or practically anywhere.

Picking the right low profile baitcaster is as important as learning how to cast one correctly. In my experience, Shimano’s low profile baitcating reels are the best on the market. I’ll tell you a little about my favorite Shimano Reel and why I like it best.

The Shimano Curado is very light reel and is extremely easy to learn to cast. As discussed above, casting a low profile baitcaster is no piece of cake! However, the Shimano Curado sure makes life much easier. Let’s face it, who wants to spend valuable fishing hours practicing?
