Ways to clean baitcasting reels

Put a Shine your Baitcasting Reels

It can seem like a lot of effort cleaning baitcasting reels after each fishing trip. However, many faults that occur can often be blamed on the fact that it has corroded as it was not maintained correctly. It may not even be a fault and instead merely underperforms compared to its brand new state. This is an anglers most frustrating problem. Even more so if it is one of their favourite baitcasting reels that has been affected.

Preparing your fishing trip however should incorporate a full cleanse of your tackle and equipment, and the most important is probably your fishing reel. A good reel should last you for a long time due to the quality construction, however, like any mechanical device it also needs to be looked after.

3 quick tips, will help to keep your baitcasting reels in good condition.

The first thing you need to do is to take the reel off the rod, and then remove the handle – In most cases, just unwind the handle as they have a reverse locking system. When you have done that, take a damp cloth and wipe over the bits of the reel that you can see. When you do so, be sure that you use clean water and especially not salt water as this will corrode inside.

Depending on the baitcasting reels you have you will then need to remove the sideplate. Some of them unclip, or unwind while others are screwed in place – you should consult the manual if you are unsure. Then its just a case of removing any dirt with a swab and picking out any other debris that may have found its way inside. Apply some bearing grease, or WD40 to the bearings and gears while you are inside as well to keep them fresh as this is one of the main causes of reel failure. When you have done this part, put the sideplate back on.

Before reattaching the handle, give it a good wash too. Its likely to be covered in dirt, bait and a whole lot more!. In most cases, a rinse with water will be fine but if it is very mucky then wash it when you get in with soapy water.

As demonstrated in this article, it really doesnt take much to keep your reel clean after you have used it and it is going to last so much longer. The next time a reel plays up in the middle of your retrieve then perhaps its time to start looking at your maintenance routine. Fishing reels, especially some baitcasting reels, are not cheap, so look after them.

Shimano Round Baitcasting Reels

Shimano Round Baitcasting Reels Great Casters

Do you ever have trouble casting?  These Shimano Round Baitcasting Reels are great for casting if you have trouble keeping the cast under control.

If your preference is heavy line, grab one of these Shimano Round Baitcasting Reels.  For you deep sea fishermen out there, these Round Baitcasting Reels handle heavy line like a charm.

And, if you’re like me, you might have trouble (occasionally – let’s face it, even the best have issues sometimes…) placing the lure exactly where you want. Round Baitcasing Reels facilitate spool thumbing, thus allowing you to place the lure exactly where you want it. Pretty cool, huh? Personally, I wish more reels had this feature.

I know I said the Round Baitcasting Reels were a piece of cake to cast,

and I might have exaggerated a little bit. Let me clarify:

Shimano Reels are easier than most to cast

Baitcasters, by nature, require more skill to cast

Round Baitcasting Reels take practice to learn but are easier than most

Also, as discussed above, this is a Fishing Reel for a heavy lure / line combo. Don’t even think about tossing out a light lure – this Shimano Reel won’t do it.

The good news is that you can expect pricing to start around $70 bucks. Not bad for Shimano Reels, right?

Ok, let’s talk about the negatives. I know I’ve been pumping up Baitcaster, but I have to be honest with you – there are a few ugly truths about baitcasters.

With Baitcasters, you’re going to get backlashes. Just a matter of fact. Certainly nothing against Shimano Reels. So if you’ve got your heart set on one of the Round Baitcasting Reels, just expect to spend a little (and I do mean a little, not a lot) of time working out backlashes.

Another downer about baitcasters is that they’re one of the more complicated reels (part wise) out there. Cleaning this puppy will be a chore. But then, cleaning any reel can be a chore! Luckily, Shimano Reels are constructed extremely well, so you’ll be impressed when you take it apart for that initial cleaning. Then again, you could always out-source your cleaning…

All in all, every true fisherman needs a baitcaster. My preference: Shimano Round Baitcasting Reels. They’re the best, hands down. Round out your collection if you don’t own one already. You’ll regret not being able to use the round baitcaster when you’re in a situation that demands one. And trust me, the cleaning isn’t that bad. That’s the best part about going with Shimano Reels – any negatives are so few and far between that they’re totally worth it!

It’s like comparing coca-cola and pepsi (sorry pepsi fans!).

Seriously though, one is clearly better. And in the case of Round Baitcasting reels, nothing beats Shimano Reels.

Round out that collection, check out Shimano’s range of Round Baitcasting Reels today.
